Another exciting project for ExpandaSign — the restoration of the iconic picket fence at Rotorua’s Government Gardens.

After many years of weathering, the original fence had begun to decay, and the Rotorua Lakes Council knew it was time to restore this treasured entrance way to its former glory. ExpandaSign was honoured to be entrusted with the task of refreshing this important civic landmark.

The Government Gardens are not only a central point of pride for the city, but also a place steeped in Māori and colonial history, sitting adjacent to the Rotorua Museum and known around the world for its stunning beauty.

The project began by refurbishing the timber pickets, ensuring the structural integrity was restored before adding the finishing touches. Each picket was then carefully applied with new decals showcasing the original Māori motifs, paying tribute to the cultural identity that defines Rotorua.

As the work was completed we had a number of local residents who stopped to comment on the transformation—many sharing stories of their own connection to the area and the pride they felt seeing this entrance renewed.
